Your task today in the 21 Day Challenge is to video yourself hitting, pitching, fielding, or training.

Visual Feedback

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to critique another player’s swing or pitching motion? That’s because you can see all the different parts trying to work together. If there is a hitch or timing issue, you can usually pick it up fairly quickly.

That’s why your private hitting coach is so valuable. He can see everything you are doing right and wrong. He tells you when your hands drop, when you step in the bucket, and when you don’t let the ball travel far enough in to the zone. You listen attentively because you know he can see all of this, and then you work to fix the issue at hand.

The Power of Video

Video for Baseball

Well, imagine if you could have this instant feedback on a regular basis. Whether you are working with a coach, a teammate, or by yourself, being able to reference a quick playback of what just did can have a tremendous effect on your ability to learn. You can make instant adjustments because now you don’t just “feel” what you are doing wrong, but can actually see it.

So when you head to the ballpark today, take a video camera with you. Set it up in the cage while you hit, in the bullpen while you pitch, or in the weight room while you work on your deadlift. Every few reps or sets, take a look at the video of what you just completed and make an adjustment to improve. Better yet, when your training partner or coach mentions that you should fix your arm angle on your change-up, refer to the tape so you can fully understand what he is seeing. Then you can both be on the same page, discuss what needs to happen, and advance from there.

Good luck!
